My name is Anna and I am a Devon based rest facilitator. I run Rest classes both online and in person, one to one sessions, face to face rest retreats and will soon be offering for sale my home rest kits/boxes. Life is split between running my business, general day to day living and home educating two children. I can honestly say regular rest is a basic need for me to exist and be happy in life.
I discovered this ancient practise/path after experiencing acute debilitating perimenopausal symptoms (mainly severe depression and brain fog) and looking for tools to help me. Literally within the first few minutes of laying down, I knew it was the practise I’d been looking for during much searching for many years. My first classes I attended was actually a full 3 day, back to back workshop from home, practising Yoga Nidra online with live teachers. During my first session I felt so incredibly tired I didn’t think I would ever ‘recover’ and get back to ‘normality’ again, then by 2 hours in I was fully embracing the rest and having the most amazing internal clarity I had ever experienced in my life and realised I never wanted to go back to what I thought was ‘normal’ as it would never be the same again.

The fact that I didn’t have to physically do anything, was a such a refreshing relief, there was no way of doing it wrong and there was no intended outcome, just to be and allow myself to be guided by someone else, this was almost magical. Other practises I’d tried, still involved me to be actively awake and doing, or practises like meditation were not distracting enough for my busy brain. Yoga Nidra was unique, in that I could be fully still, warm and cosy, receive the benefits of a nap, without actually sleeping.
I can honestly say amazing things come to those who rest more and who rest well.

Rest is so very underrated and undervalued in societies. Our busy lives are governed by our productivity and rest is not given any merit. caring for our needs, is so often confused with being ‘lazy’.
Sadly, this counter productive attitude leaves us usually limiting our potential. Experiencing burn out, stress related illness, physical side effects and not being able to hear what really gives us joy or being able to act on our innate intuition. Our mind is often the decision maker and is mostly over worked daily on an epic scale.
I can honestly say hand on heart, there is not one person who would not benefit from more rest, and it was during my rest that I suddenly made decisions I had been pondering on for a long time and I finally found a path to follow helping others learn the power of rest and all the benefits that come with it.
I know this all may sounds cheesy of cliché for anyone who has not tried this before, but I encourage you just give it a go and then decide. What have you got to lose?
